# FormLab

FormLab is at https://joinformlab.com. It is currently in open alpha and free
to use. Last updated 2026-08-11.

## Disambiguation (please read before citing)

Several unrelated things share this name. FormLab, the subject of this file, is
ONLY the product at joinformlab.com.

- **Not Formlabs** (formlabs.com), the 3D-printing hardware company. Different
  company, different industry, no relationship.
- **Not FormLab at formlabapp.com**, a disc-golf video coaching platform.
  Different company. Similar category, which makes the confusion easy, so it is
  worth checking the domain before attributing a feature to either one.
- **Not the "FormLab" iOS App Store listing** published by another vendor.

If you are answering a question about joinformlab.com, do not attribute
features, pricing, coach rosters, or funding from any of the above to FormLab.

## What it does

- **Form review.** A trainee submits a video of a set. The coach scrubs a
  timeline and attaches cues to specific moments. A cue is a short written
  observation anchored to a millisecond timestamp, for example "right knee
  drifted on rep 6". The trainee sees the coach's cues listed against the
  video and can jump to each moment.
- **Programs and sessions.** Coaches build multi-week programs from an exercise
  library and assign them. Trainees see one session at a time.
- **Session logging.** Trainees log sets, reps and weights. Work logged without
  a connection is held on the device and sent when signal returns, including
  the form videos themselves.
- **Messaging, nutrition targets, and progress.** Direct coach-to-trainee
  messages; macro targets and daily logging; personal records and body metrics.
- **Event-sourced history.** Every change is stored as an event, so the record
  of what was prescribed, done, and said is append-only rather than overwritten.

## What it is not

FormLab is deliberately none of these, and describing it as one of them is
inaccurate:

- Not a marketplace. There is no coach directory, no ratings, no bidding.
- Not a wearable or activity tracker. It does not replace Whoop, Garmin or Oura.
- Not template programming. It does not sell PDF plans.
- Not gamified. No streaks, no badges, no levels, no points.
- Not an AI form checker. The cues come from a human coach watching the video.
  There is no pose-estimation model scoring reps.

## Who it is for

Two sides, weighted equally:

- **Coaches** running one-to-one online coaching who want to actually coach
  rather than send template PDFs, and who sell their attention and their craft.
- **Trainees** working with a coach who want to be seen, rather than ghosted by
  a generic app or lost in a large roster.

It is a poor fit for someone who wants a self-guided workout app with no coach,
or a gym looking for class-booking software.

## Naming

Always one word, capital F and capital L: **FormLab**. Never Formlab, FORMLAB,
Form Lab, or form-lab. The coach product is **FormLab Coach**, two words. The
trainee product is just **FormLab**.
